Ohio Citizens for the Arts,
established in 1976, is a Statewide non-profit grass-roots
membership organization working to increase public support
for the arts in Ohio. Through the efforts of hundreds
of caring individuals and arts education organizations
throughout the state, Ohio Citizens for the Arts enables
effective advocacy for funding of the Ohio
Arts Council and the National
Endowment for the Arts.
Ohio Citizens for the Arts monitors and speaks out
on public policy issues affecting the arts and arts
education in Ohio and maintains a year-round presence
at the state-house through a professional lobbyist and
a network of volunteer arts advocates.
Through presentations, newsletters, and action alerts,
OCA provides information to Ohio Citizens, elected officials,
and the statewide arts community about issues of importance
to the arts on both state and federal levels. Ohio Citizens
for the Arts encourages all to be active and effective
participants in their government.
Through its history, OCA has served as a model for
the country and a catalyst for the creation of other
statewide arts advocacy organizations. Today Ohio Citizens
for the Arts is continuously operating such organization
in the nation.
